Wedding Budget

What Weddings Really Cost: Vendor Edition

One of the most common sources of stress in wedding planning is the budget, and much of that stress comes from not knowing what things actually cost. The average wedding in Texas runs between $25,000 and $40,000, but that number can vary wildly depending on your priorities. Understanding how vendor pricing works helps you allocate your budget wisely and avoid sticker shock.

Photography and videography typically command 10 to 15 percent of your total budget, and for good reason — these are the vendors whose work you'll revisit for decades. Catering, including bar service, is usually the single largest expense at 35 to 40 percent. Florals and decor range from modest to extravagant, generally landing between 8 and 15 percent. Entertainment, whether a DJ or live band, runs 5 to 10 percent, while a wedding coordinator typically costs 10 to 15 percent of your overall spend.

The most important piece of advice we can offer: be upfront with your vendors about your budget from the very first conversation. Experienced professionals can almost always find creative ways to deliver an incredible experience within your means. Hidden costs — overtime fees, service charges, gratuities, and rental minimums — are where budgets blow up. Ask detailed questions, read contracts carefully, and build a 10 percent buffer into your budget for the unexpected.
